Gary Laing | Construction Director
Bio
Gary joined D J Laing after leaving college, having previously worked within all the Company’s departments while studying. With over 14 years experience in the industry, he has a great wealth of technical experience and product knowledge. Gary is also knowledgeable in timber kit manufacturing and manages the companies in-house team.
Gary has been involved with both small and large scale housing developments including luxury and refurbishment projects. His day to day duties included appointing sub contractors and procuring building materials. He has recently taken on the role of planning future developments and considering alternative materials and methods of construction.
With a great mind set for product innovation and a desire to learn, Gary is known for his attention to detail, along with his strong negotiation skills. Qualifications include an HNC in Construction, HND in Facilities Management and an SVQ Level 3 in Management. He is also a member of the RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors).
Gary Laing's Highlights
Gary came into the business as a trained QS. He established himself quickly, and showed a great desire to learn. He was hard working, committed and had the right attitude, in that he was teachable. That seems to me the exception rather than the rule nowadays. It is not always easy for a family member to come into a family business, and Gary handled that very well. He attended college part time, gaining an HND. I had no doubt Gary would cope well with the demands on the job and would go on to become a capable QS, and be an asset to the business.
Gary is an extremely hard working and personable individual always willing to innovate new methods to improve efficiency in the Construction Business. I was Gary's mentor for a time and thoroughly enjoyed working closely with him and other family members at DJ Laing. I am delighted that Gary has made great progress and have no hesitation in recommending him as an outstanding Construction Professional.
