It’s International Women’s Day and we at D J LAING would like to celebrate and recognise all the women who are part of our team and play an important role within our business.

From the Receptionist to the Credit Controller to the IT Administrator to the Business Development Manager all our team members play a vital part in or business.  They may not be directly involved with the build process but they provide vital services to support other departments which allows our business to function.

16% of D J Laing’s workforce is women and according to Go Construct, women working in construction is on the increase.

Managing Director, Karen Nicoll discusses her 30 year career in the housebuilding industry and encourages people to consider a career in the construction industry.

“When I started at D J Laing in 1990 it wasn’t that obvious that I was working in construction.  Being based at head office meant that I didn’t see directly what was happening on site.  It wasn’t until the business expanded and I progressed into management that I became more aware of all our activities and the important role everyone plays – male or female, on and off site – to build new homes and infrastructure (roads and drainage).  The work that we do creates an important and pleasant built environment for others to enjoy for decades to come. I would definitely recommend a career in the construction industry as it is rewarding and varied, plus it gives me great pride to make our mark on the world.”
